Dean
Koba Dean Koba, a native of Honolulu, Hawaii, has performed with such jazz greats as Benny Bailey, Bud Shank, Jeff Clayton, John Clayton, Bill Cunliffe, Dee Daniels, Walter Norris, Bob Sheppard, Gary Foster, Fareed Haque, and Tamir Hendelman among others. He is featured on several recordings with bassist Christoph Luty, the Acoustic Jazz Quartet, The Bayou Brass Band, and Brent Jenson. Dean studied music at Northwestern University (BA 1985) and USC School of Music (MM 1993) where he studied privately with Jeff Hamilton, Joe Labarbera, and Greg Field. Dean currently resides in Lakewood, California and freelances in the greater Los Angeles area. He performs weekly with the Bayou Brass Band at Disneyland and also teaches percussion at Long Beach City College. Dean uses: Regal Tip Sticks & Brushes, Gretsch Drums, Paiste Cymbals, and Aquarian Drum Heads. |
